The Buehler Estate is a Usonian home designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright for his clients Maynard and Katherine Buehler in Orinda, California. The house is one of the most distinct and stunning examples of mid-century  modern design in the Bay Area and is available to rent for a select number of weddings each year. One of the primary goals while crafting this wedding editorial at the Buehler Estate was to let the architecture speak for itself. I’ve always felt magnetically drawn to mid-century modern design, and this house is extra special. Though it was completed in 1948, it still carries a sense of freshness and futurism that feels almost suspended in time. The ceremony was intentionally oriented towards the house. The grassy orange flower mounds complemented the sharp geometry of the L-shaped home. It felt right to add wishbone chairs, which were designed by Hans Wegner in 1949, just a year after the Buehler Estate was completed.

The wedding dinner was crafted to similarly emphasize the relationship between the sharp and organic, with moss and flowers popping up from the table. The Buehler Estate’s dining table and chairs were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright himself specifically for the house, so everything felt incredibly cohesive.

The 24-karat gold on the living room ceiling and octagonal shape make it feel memorable, grand, and gorgeous. I love how, as with all of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian homes, the back of the house opens completely to the outdoors, with floor-to-ceiling windows that dissolve the boundary between inside and out. Celeste and Blake sat on the couch together while cutting their cake and casually shared a slice.

At the end of the evening, Celeste and Blake had their getaway in a 1960 Chevrolet Corvette.

How to Book the Buehler Estate for Your Wedding

Getting married at the Buehler Estate begins with a direct inquiry to the venue to confirm availability and guest capacity. Because it is a privately owned Frank Lloyd Wright home rather than a commercial event site, the estate hosts a limited number of weddings each year and is selective about how the property is used. Once your date is confirmed, you’ll receive detailed guidelines covering event flow, rentals, catering, and vendor coordination — all designed to protect the architecture and gardens while still allowing your day to feel personal and fluid.
